I am so glad that everyone is SUPER EXCITED about the World War II research papers. I handed out the official requirements and deadlines to everyone today and they are listed below. Each day we will have time to discuss a feature of the paper and the writing process. Be sure to stay on top of this. The final due date is Wednesday, April 15.

World War II Research Paper

Your task is to write a 4-5 page research paper on the a
World War II topic of your choice.

You will do research at the school library, the public library and, possibly a university library as well as the internet. You must use a variety of sources to ensure corroboration of facts and diversity of information.

The Resources:

You must use at least 10 different sources for your resources.
• 4 reputable internet sites (university sites, museums, government sites)
• 3 journal articles (these may be found using data bases on the internet, but are publications i.e. magazines or journals)
• 3 book sources

Each of these resources must have facts and information represented in the paper and documented properly.

The Writing:

Your paper must have a clearly stated thesis in the introduction of the paper. This thesis statement should inform the reader (me) of the purpose for the paper and all information in the paper must relate to that thesis.

You must demonstrate that you have done planning and prewriting as you go through this process. Attached are important dates to guide you through the paper.

The paper must be clearly written IN YOUR OWN WORDS. Any ideas, statements of opinion or fact that are not your own should be documented. Be careful of cutting and pasting because it is easy to forget where the information came from and to forget to come back to it.

Grammar, spelling and proper sentence structure do count as part of your grade.

The Works Cited Page:

All of your information must be documented (cited) with in your paper using In-Text citations. We will use the MLA style of citing information and creating a bibliography.

Important Dates:

March 31: A list of at least 5 sources and each type of source represented

April 2: A preliminary outline or plan for the paper with a thesis statement. Have at least 4 main sub-topics to write about

April 7: A full introduction written and ready for peer editing and the full 10 source list

April 10: A rough draft ready for peer editing and teacher conferences

April 15: Final Product Due!!

Hello All!

If you have been paying attention, you must know that the Christmas Break is on the way, but we have to take finals before we can get there. Here is what is in store for all of you over the next few days:

8th Grade: We will wrap up World War One with a look at the Treaty of Versailles and Wilson’s 14 Points. There will be a couple of handouts to read and complete for these topics. I have Thursday and Friday scheduled for review. I hope you have been keeping up. Our History Final is Monday, December 12.

7th Grade: We will finish an overview of the Constitution of the United States with a focus on the jobs of each branch of government. Look to the Civics Handbook in your Textbook beginning on page 224 as reference. Your review is also on Thursday and Friday with your test on Monday, December 12 as well.

You should be gathering notes and old tests to get going on the studying. Good Luck!

As you all know, the Presidential election is only 5 days away and the last few days we have been having some discussions about each candidate’s position on several key issues. I am so impressed by everyone’s interest and knowledge about the election and the issues. We will hold our own class election on Monday. 8th graders, the worksheet you have been working on will serve as your voter registration cards. 7th graders, you will get to vote based on our discussions in class. I want to make sure you all have done research and vote based on facts not just emotion.

It has also been very entertaining to watch you all try to guess who I’m going to vote for. I assure you I have been doing my own research and feel like I am making a good choice. I’ll keep it to myself, though

8th Grade goes to Outdoor School at Camp Champion in Marble Falls October 1-3…Only 13 Days from now. I have not been to Camp Champion before, but I hear it is pretty cool. It has an excellent ropes course and I have it on good authority that we are going to have a special night under the stars. Ask Coach D for details!

7th Grade goes to Outdoor School at Camp Eagle October 15-17. I love the place…It is right on the Nueces River and you can see exotic animals grazing across the river in the mornings. The Sherpa Trail and Zip Line are the BEST! I will miss that part of it. The Hydro Lab is tons of fun too. You all will have a blast.

Ahhh…I can’t wait! Fun in the sun, hiking, saran wrap, tiny squares of TP (I’m bringing my own role this time)…The memories are priceless!
