Winter Blues

Good Chilly Morning to you all!

I think we are all getting a case of the winter blues around here.  I have noticed a drop in enthusiasm for all things school and class related.  Everyone and everything seems a bit on the edge.  Uniforms are looking a little ragged, attitudes are getting a little snarky and I have witnessed more than a few exaggerated eye-rolls.  I know it is hard to keep focus during this time of year when it feels like we all should be hibernating, but focus we must.  Lets snap back to standards and put the St. Luke’s Way back into practice.  Here are a few suggestions:

Girls:  Check the length of your skirts and the cleanliness of your shoes

Boys:  Remember to keep the shirts tucked in!  If your dress shirt cannot be buttoned, it is time to purchase a new one!

For everyone:  The only pieces of outerwear than can be worn in at school are the uniform sweaters, the red sweatshirt or the red fleece jackets.  If you wear something else you will be asked to take it off.  No eye-rolling or deep sighs needed.

We (the teachers) know how you feel…we are not here to torture or mercilessly punish you.  We do not take delight in making nor try to make your life miserable…Promise.

Hang in there…get yourselves and your work back up to speed.  The middle school will be a much more pleasant place for it.

Thanks!  G

What a day!

Well, it;s a whole new world as of 12:00 EST this afternoon.  We were fortunate to watch the Inauguration in its entirety and take time to reflect on an event that will be one to tell your children and grandchildren.  I am proud of our nation and the possibilties for this new time in History.

For the rest of the week we will finish the Women’s Rights presentations for 8th grade and introduce the Roaring 20’s.

7th Graders will transition from the George Washington Administration to a brief overview of Adams and on to the Jeffersonian Era.

Stay tuned for a list of assignments for Thursday, Friday and next week.

Women’s Rights and Presidential Firsts

Welcome back all…yes, I know we’ve been back for a week now, but I was busy getting back into the swing of things last week.

So…this semester promises to be FAST, FAST, FAST!  We have a lot of ground to cover and everyone better put on his or her thinking cap because I am going to expect some impressive answers from all of you.

8th Graders:  Be ready to do much more research and writing.  The topics we cover give opportunities to do lots of this.  This week~Women’s Rights Timelines and the use of Primary Documents

7th Graders:  I will be grading your end of section questions with a more critical eye this semester.  Be sure to explain yourself and give examples to support your answers.  This Week~Presidential Firsts…George Washington and the 1st Presidency

I’m Glad you are all back!
